Developing Policy Papers

Developing Policy Papers for Advocacy on youth issues:

 Policy Papers

Policy paper is one of the main tools CAMYOSFOP uses to propagate its ideology on youth development. These policy papers are therefore developed on salient issues affecting the lives of young people. The methodology for the development of these policy papers include: Consultations with the target group, focus group meetings, baselines surveys and desk reviews. Once these papers are developed they are used to inform policy and advocate the government for reforms in line with the recommendations of the paper. In recent years, the most prominent issues faced by youths in Cameroon and Africa has been, unemployment, training and job acquisition, participation in decision making, quality of education, migration, extremism and terrorism, drug abuse, Violence on women and girls, HIV/AIDS etc,

In response to some of the above problems faced by the youth CAMYOSFOP during the past years has developed the following policy papers:

  1. Unemployment and Migration: Reform the Policy;
  2. Agriculture and Vocational Training as Gateway to Youth Employment;
  3. Education Sector Reform for Youth Employment.

Thanks to the policy paper on unemployment and Migration in 2011, CAMYOSFOP also took credit for the recruitment of 25000 young graduates into the Public service by the President of the Republic. Since then there has been exponential increase in the level of employment in Cameroon from 200.000 in 2013 to 250.000 in 2014 and 300.000 in 2015. Equally, since the holding of the 2011 Agro Pastoral Show in Ebolowa, so much is being done to mobilize and encourage youth to take agriculture as a profession. Our policy paper on agriculture and vocational training has therefore been very instrumental in mobilizing the Cameroonian youth in this domain. Finally, a lot of efforts is being made by the government towards reforming the education curriculum to permit young Cameroonians not only to acquire certificates but to graduate from schools and universities as professionals.
