Achieving the MDGs

CAMYOSFOP has been at the centre of development agendas right from its creation in 1999. Immediately, the Millennium Development Goals were adopted in September 2000, CAMYOSFOP took the lead in mobilizing the youth towards the achievement of these goals. These goals that are 8 in number are:

  1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger;
  2. Achieve universal primary education;
  3. Promote gender equality and empower women;
  4. Reduce child mortality;
  5. Improve maternal health;
  6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases;
  7. Ensure environmental sustainability;
  8. Develop a global partnership for development.

Considering that UNDP was the lead UN agency in the implementation of the MDGs, in 2004 CAMYOSFOP through her Executive Director, Mr Ngalim Eugine Nyuydine was invited to participate in the First Pan African Youth Leadership Summit held in Dakar Senegal from June 27 – 30. At the end of this summit Mr Ngalim alongside the other youth leaders invited for the summit were appointed as the UN Youth Spokespersons for Africa 2015 MDGs Campaign.  While back in Cameroon the Resident Representative of UNDP at the time, Mrs Patricia De Mowbray and the Minister of Youth Affairs, Mr Adoum Garoua officially presented him to the Cameroonian youth in a ceremony organized prior to the celebration of the 2005 Cameroon National Youth Day on February 11. In 2005, Mr Ngalim was again invited to represent the Cameroonian youth in the Second Pan African Youth Leadership Summit on the MDGs held in Ifrane, Morocco from 18 – 22 August. During this summit, CAMYOSFOP was awarded the King Mohammed/UN Youth Continental Award on MDGs related projects. CAMYOSFOP winning project was on the campaign against war toys, firecrackers and violent films within the youth milieu in Cameroon. Again in 2006 he was invited to represent the Cameroonian youth in the Global Youth Leadership Summit on the MDGs held in New York from October 28 – November 1, 2006.  Prior to the holding of this summit Mr Ngalim played the role of an editor for the newsletter that was created to mobilize the youth and policy makers towards this summit.

As the mouth piece of the Cameroonian youth on the MDGs CAMYOSFOP participated in the drafting of all the national progress reports, consultations, meetings and other processes on the MDGs at the national, regional and global levels.
